Import a GitHub issue into BugHerd
Import GitHub issue 142 from contoso/website into the BugHerd project Contoso Website.
Issue 142 is open and has no BugHerd task yet, so this will be a new task. - Project: Contoso Website - Description: Hero image is cropped on tablets, with the issue body and link - Severity: important, from the p1 label - Link: contoso/website#142 Shall I create it and comment the task link on the issue?

The problem

Site testers never see bugs logged in GitHub

When a developer logs a bug in GitHub, the team checking the live site works in BugHerd and never sees it. Copying it across means retyping, guessing severity and linking back, and the same issue gets imported twice.

Without PopdockAI

  • Copy the issue title and body by hand
  • Guess a BugHerd severity
  • Forget to link back to GitHub
  • Import the same issue twice

With PopdockAI

  • The issue is read, asking first if it is closed
  • BugHerd is checked for a task already linked to it
  • Severity is set from the issue labels in a draft task
  • One task is created after you confirm and linked back on GitHub

Prompt
**Objective:** Create a BugHerd task in the project `{project-name}` for GitHub issue `{issue-number}` in the repository `{repository}`, and link it back on the issue.

**Step 1: Read the issue**

Call `github-get-issue` with `company` set to `{repository}` and `issue-number`. If it is not found, say so and stop. If its status is closed, say so and ask whether to continue.

**Step 2: Find the project and check for an existing task**

Call `bugherd-get-projects` with `name.contains` set to `{project-name}`. If nothing matches, say so and stop. If several match, list their names and project-id values and ask which one; do not guess. Then call `bugherd-get-tasks` with `project-id` and `external-id` set to "{repository}#{issue-number}". If a task exists, report its task number and admin-link and stop.

**Step 3: Prepare the task**

* description: the issue title, a blank line, the issue body (cut to 2000 characters), then the issue-url.
* severity: critical if the issue's labels include critical, blocker or p0; important for high or p1; otherwise normal.

**Step 4: Confirm, then write**

Show the task you will create and wait for an explicit yes. Then:

1. Call `bugherd-add-task` once with `project-id`, `description`, `severity` and `external-id` set to "{repository}#{issue-number}".
2. Call `bugherd-get-tasks` with `project-id` and `external-id` to read back the task number and admin-link.
3. Call `github-add-issue-comment` once with `company`, `issue-number` and "Tracked in BugHerd as task #<task number>: <admin-link>".

**Step 5: Report**

The BugHerd task number and admin-link, and whether the GitHub comment was added.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* Tools named bugherd-... are on the bugherd MCP server; tools named github-... are on the github MCP server. Every GitHub tool takes the repository as its `company` parameter. If either set of tools is missing, say which server is not connected and stop.
* The only write tools this prompt may call are `bugherd-add-task` and `github-add-issue-comment`, each once, after the user confirms.
* Do not change the GitHub issue's state, labels or assignee.

**Validation:**

* If `bugherd-add-task` fails, show the error and do not touch GitHub.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Project managers

Put developer bugs in front of testers

The task carries the issue title, body and link, so testers can check the fix on the live site.

Import GitHub issue 88 from fabrikam/site into the BugHerd project Fabrikam Site.

QA engineers

Track GitHub bugs where you test

Bugs from GitHub appear in BugHerd without retyping, and duplicates are skipped.

Bring GitHub issue 301 in contoso/shop into BugHerd project Contoso Shop if it is not there yet.

Developers

Know testers have your bug

A comment on your GitHub issue points to the BugHerd task.

Copy GitHub issue 54 from northwind/web to BugHerd project Northwind Web and comment the link on the issue.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You give the repository, issue number and BugHerd project, and your AI assistant drafts the task. Nothing is written until you confirm, and the issue's state, labels and assignee are never changed.

01

Ask

You give the GitHub repository, issue number and BugHerd project.

Your AI tool

02

Check

It reads the issue and looks for a BugHerd task already linked to it.

03

Confirm

You see the task it will create, with severity taken from the issue labels, and say yes.

No items found.

04

Create

It adds the task, reads it back and comments the task link on the GitHub issue.
