Review Ghost Inspector slow tests
Which Ghost Inspector tests took longer than 60 seconds in the last 14 days, and which steps are slowing them down?
7 tests ran over 60 seconds, and 3 of them are slow every time. - Slowest: Order history, median 94 seconds - Step: 12, wait for #orders-table, 38 seconds - Step: 4, assign #search, 21 seconds - Occasional: Login SSO, slow on 2 of 18 runs Want the two slowest steps for each of the five worst tests?

The problem

A slow suite delays every release

A slow Ghost Inspector suite delays every release, but it is not obvious which tests or steps eat the time. Finding out means comparing durations across days, then timing step by step through the slowest runs.

Without PopdockAI

  • Compare run durations across days
  • Pick out the slowest tests by eye
  • Time the steps in each slow run by hand
  • Guess at what to trim

With PopdockAI

  • Runs over your threshold are found
  • Median and worst time separate consistently slow tests
  • The two slowest steps are named in the five worst tests
  • Only recorded times are used, and changes are recommended

Prompt
**Objective:** Find the Ghost Inspector tests running longer than `{threshold-ms}` milliseconds (default 60000) over the last `{lookback-days}` days (default 14), and say which steps account for the time.

**Step 1: Collect the slow runs**

Call `ghost-inspector-get-test-result` with `execution-time-ms.min` set to `{threshold-ms}` and `date-created.from` set to the start of the window. Keep `test-name`, `suite-name`, `execution-time-ms`, `browser`, `region` and `id` for each.

**Step 2: Separate the consistently slow from the occasionally slow**

Call `ghost-inspector-get-test-result` again with only the date filter, so you have every run. For each test that appeared in step 1, compare its median duration against its worst. A test whose every run is slow has a structural problem; one whose median is fine and worst is bad is contended or waiting on something external.

**Step 3: Find the expensive steps**

For the five slowest tests, take the slowest result `id` and call `ghost-inspector-get-test-step` with that `test-result-id`. Use `date-executed` across consecutive steps in `sequence` order to work out which steps took the longest. Note the `command` and `target` of the worst ones. Long gaps on a wait, a navigation or an assert are the usual cause.

**Step 4: Report**

A table of: test name, suite, median duration, worst duration, browser, region, consistently slow or occasionally slow. Then for the top five, the two slowest steps with their command and target, and a recommendation.

**Rules and guidelines:**

* Read only. Do NOT call `ghost-inspector-execute-test`, `ghost-inspector-execute-suite`, `ghost-inspector-update-test` or `ghost-inspector-update-suite`. This report recommends changes, it does not make them.
* Durations come from `execution-time-ms` on the result and from `date-executed` differences between steps. Do not estimate a step duration any other way.

**Validation:**

* If no run exceeds `{threshold-ms}`, report the slowest run you did find so the user can pick a lower threshold, and stop.
* If a run's steps carry no usable `date-executed` values, say the per step timing is unavailable for it and report only the total.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Test automation engineers

Speed up the suite

The two slowest steps in each of the worst tests, with command and target, show what to change.

Which Ghost Inspector tests ran over 90 seconds in the last 30 days, and which steps are slowest?

QA leads

Separate slow from occasionally slow

Median against worst time shows which tests are always slow and which have bad days.

Which Ghost Inspector tests are consistently slow and which only occasionally, over 45 seconds?

Release managers

Shorten the release pipeline

Knowing where the time goes helps you decide what to optimise before the next release.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You give a duration threshold and a period, and your AI assistant finds the slow tests and the steps behind them. Missing step timing is stated, never estimated.

01

Ask

You give a duration threshold and a lookback period.

Your AI tool

02

Collect

It finds runs over the threshold and compares each test's median and worst time.

03

Time

It times the steps in the five slowest tests to find the two longest.

04

Report

You get slow tests and steps from recorded times, with changes recommended.

What PopdockAI provides

The tools behind the answer

Ready made tools for Ghost Inspector and one secure connection to your AI tool. No code, no exports.

get-data

ghost-inspector-get-test-result

Returns individual Ghost Inspector test runs, including whether the run passed, how long it took, and the test and suite it belongs to. Filter by test, suite, browser, date range, pass state, or a minimum execution time for finding slow runs. This is the tool to start from when investigating a failure.
get-data

ghost-inspector-get-test-step

Returns the individual steps executed within a Ghost Inspector test run, in sequence, with the command, the target element and whether the step passed. Pass a test result ID to see that run's steps. Filter to failing steps only, or to a single command such as click or assign, to find exactly where a test broke.
