Update Dynamics GP item prices by percentage
Raise prices on the PRINTERS class in Dynamics GP by 4 percent.
PRINTERS has 64 price rows, and 2 would still be under cost after the increase. - Example: LP-10 each from 245.00 to 254.80 - Under cost: 2 rows on the LP-5, flagged - Skipped: 3 percent-based rows Shall I apply the 4 percent increase to the 61 rows?

The problem

Price increases applied twice or below cost

A price increase across an item class in Dynamics GP means updating every price row by hand, at every unit and break. It is slow, easy to apply twice and easy to push a price below cost without noticing.

Without PopdockAI

  • Find every price row for the class
  • Calculate new prices at each unit and break
  • Check none fall below cost
  • Key each row and hope none were done twice

With PopdockAI

  • Company-wide changes are refused, so scope is always set
  • New prices are calculated and any below cost flagged
  • You approve the full before and after table
  • Each row is updated once and re-read to catch differences

The prompt

Use this prompt

Prompt
**Objective:** Change item prices by `{percent-change}` percent for class `{item-class-code}` and price level `{price-level}`, after the user approves the full before-and-after table.

Pass `{company}` as `company` on every call (if it is empty, omit `company` and the default company is used). Pass a generous `max-records` (1000). If a result comes back with exactly that many rows, say the result may be truncated.

**Step 1: Scope**

If neither `{item-class-code}` nor `{price-level}` is given, stop and ask; this prompt does not change every price in the company. Call `dynamics-gp-get-iv-item` with `item-class-code` to get the item numbers, then `dynamics-gp-get-iv-item-price` by `item-number` (and `price-level` when given) for each.

**Step 2: Calculate**

Keep only rows whose `price-method` stores a currency amount; list percent-based rows as skipped. New price = old price times (1 plus change / 100), rounded to 2 decimals. Flag any new price below `current-cost`.

**Step 3: Confirm**

If more than 100 rows are in scope, stop and ask the user to narrow it. Otherwise show a table: item, level, unit of measure, currency, quantity break, old price, new price, current cost, flag. Show the user exactly what will be written, field by field, and ask for explicit confirmation. Do nothing further without a clear yes.

**Step 4: Write**

Call `dynamics-gp-iv-item-price-update` once per confirmed row with `item-number`, `price-level`, `unit-of-measure`, `currency-id`, `end-quantity` and `price`. If one fails, stop, and report which rows were updated and which were not. Do not retry a failed write automatically. Report the error exactly as returned.

**Step 5: Verify**

Re-read `dynamics-gp-get-iv-item-price` for the updated items and report any row whose stored price differs from the confirmed new price.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* `dynamics-gp-iv-item-price-update` is the only write tool this prompt may call, once per confirmed row, after Step 3.
* Do not change item costs or list prices; this prompt changes price list rows only.

**Validation:**

* If `{percent-change}` is not a number between -50 and 100, stop and ask the user to confirm it.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Pricing analysts

Roll out an increase in one pass

Every row for the class is calculated and shown before and after, ready to approve.

Raise Dynamics GP prices on the CABLES class by 3 percent.

Finance controllers

Never price below cost

New prices below current cost are flagged before you approve the change.

Cut prices on the CLEARANCE price level by 10 percent in Dynamics GP, but flag anything below cost.

Sales operations

Update one price level only

Target a single price level, so other customer pricing is left alone.

Increase the WHOLESALE price level by 5 percent in Dynamics GP.
