Check Shopify sales tax against your Rillet tax account
For finance teams preparing a filing who want Shopify tax collected compared with what was posted in Rillet, by asking their AI assistant.

The problem
Sales tax collected rarely matches the liability account
The sales tax Shopify collected should match what was posted to your tax liability account in Rillet, but refunds, timing and filings muddy the comparison. Working it out by hand before a filing means adding order tax, subtracting refunded tax and netting journal lines.
Without PopdockAI
- Add up tax on every Shopify order
- Subtract tax on refunds
- Net the credits and debits on the Rillet tax account
- Guess why the two figures differ
With PopdockAI
- The Rillet tax account is confirmed before anything else
- Order tax is totalled and refunded tax subtracted
- Credits and debits on the account are netted and compared
- Likely causes of any difference are listed, and nothing is posted

**Objective:** Compare the sales tax Shopify collected on orders from `{from-date}` to `{to-date}` (default: the previous calendar month), net of refunded tax, with the net credits posted to Rillet account `{tax-account-code}` in the same period.
**Step 1: Tax collected in Shopify**
Call `shopify-get-order` with created-at.from and created-at.to set to the period. Leave out orders with cancelled-at set. Sum total-tax by currency.
If the period has 50 orders or fewer, also call `shopify-get-order-tax-line` for each order-id and total shop-price-amount by title, so the report can show the tax by jurisdiction. Above 50 orders, skip the breakdown and say why.
**Step 2: Tax refunded in Shopify**
Call `shopify-get-refund` with created-at.from and created-at.to set to the period. For each refund-id, call `shopify-get-refund-line` filtered by order-refund-id and sum total-tax.
**Step 3: Tax posted in Rillet**
Call `rillet-get-accounts` filtered by account-code `{tax-account-code}` and confirm it exists. Then call `rillet-get-journal-entry-lines` (no filters) and keep lines whose account-code is `{tax-account-code}` and whose date falls in the period. Net them as credits minus debits, by currency.
**Step 4: Report**
A table by currency:
| | Amount |
|---|---|
| Shopify tax collected | |
| Shopify tax refunded | |
| Shopify net tax | |
| Rillet net credits to the tax account | |
| Difference | |
Then the jurisdiction breakdown if you have it.
If there is a difference, look for its likely causes and list them: refunds booked in a different period, orders not yet invoiced in Rillet (check `rillet-get-invoices` for invoice-numbers equal to the order names, with or without #), or tax filings posted to the same account.
**Rules & Guidelines:**
* `shopify-get-order`, `shopify-get-order-tax-line`, `shopify-get-refund` and `shopify-get-refund-line` are on the shopify server. `rillet-get-accounts`, `rillet-get-journal-entry-lines` and `rillet-get-invoices` are on the rillet server.
* This prompt is read-only. Do not call `rillet-add-journal-entry`, `rillet-update-journal-entry` or any other write tool.
**Validation:**
* If `{tax-account-code}` is not a Rillet account, stop and say so.
* If there are no Shopify orders in the period, report Shopify tax as zero and still show the Rillet side.
* Show every currency separately. Do not convert.Who it's for
