The problem

Explaining an ARR change takes hours of spreadsheet work

Explaining why ARR moved means lining up every customer in both months, sorting them into new, expansion, contraction and churn and checking the bridge adds up. By hand it takes hours, and an apparent churn may just be a data problem.

Without PopdockAI

  • Export ARR for two months from Rillet
  • Line up every customer side by side
  • Sort each into new, expansion, contraction or churn
  • Rework the bridge until it adds up

With PopdockAI

  • ARR history read for both months, date format checked first
  • Each customer classed within the same currency
  • A bridge per currency checked to add up, with net retention
  • Churned customers with active contracts flagged as likely data issues

Prompt
**Objective:** Explain how annual recurring revenue moved between `{compare-month}` (default the month before `{year-month}`) and `{year-month}`, split into new, expansion, contraction and churned customers.

**Step 1: Pull both months**

Call `rillet-get-arr-waterfall` filtered by `year-month` = `{year-month}`, then again for the comparison month. Before filtering, check one returned row to see how `year-month` is written and use that exact format.

**Step 2: Classify each customer**

Match rows by `customer-id`, within the same `currency`:

* New: ARR now, none (or zero) before.
* Churned: ARR before, none (or zero) now.
* Expansion: ARR higher now.
* Contraction: ARR lower now.
* Flat: unchanged; count them but do not list them.

**Step 3: Report**

* The ARR bridge per currency: opening ARR, plus new, plus expansion, minus contraction, minus churn, equals closing ARR. Check that it adds up and say so.
* The five largest movers in each category: customer name, before, after, change.
* Net revenue retention = (opening + expansion - contraction - churn) / opening, as a percentage.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* This is read-only. Do not call any tool whose name starts with rillet-add-, rillet-update-, rillet-apply-, rillet-unapply-, rillet-record-, rillet-set- or rillet-setup-.
* Never add ARR in different currencies together.
* If a churned customer still has an active contract in `rillet-get-contracts`, flag it: that is usually a data problem, not churn.

**Validation:**

* If either month returns no rows, say which one and stop rather than calling every customer new or churned.
