Give every Postman environment a consistent name
For API teams who want messy Postman environment names fixed to one convention, choosing exactly which renames are applied.

Connect Postman, pick your AI tool and paste the prompt.
The problem
One stage, four names: prod, Production, PRD and Live
Over time Postman environments end up named prod, Production, PRD and Live for the same stage, with copy markers like (1) or old. People pick the wrong one, and renaming by hand risks collisions or breaking something that depends on the name.
Without PopdockAI
- Scan every environment name by eye
- Decide on a convention as you go
- Rename one at a time
- Collide with a name that already exists
With PopdockAI
- Every environment is read for synonyms, casing, spaces and copy markers
- Likely duplicates are flagged, with a variable key check
- Environments used by monitors are marked
- Only the renames you pick are applied, never into an existing name

**Objective:** Make environment names consistent, using `{naming-convention}` as the target pattern (default: Title Case stage names Development, Testing, Staging, Production, with any product prefix kept, e.g. Payments - Staging).
**Step 1: Load environments**
Call `postman-get-environments`. Keep environment-id, environment-uid, name, owner, public and updated-at.
**Step 2: Find inconsistencies**
* Stage synonyms: dev/develop/development, test/qa/testing, stage/stg/staging, prod/prd/live/production.
* Mixed case, stray spaces, trailing copy markers such as Copy, (1) or - old.
* Duplicates: two environments that normalize to the same name. Do not rename these into a collision; flag them instead, and use `postman-get-environment-variables` with `environment-id` to say whether their variable keys match (likely a duplicate) or not.
* Check monitors with `postman-get-monitors` and note which environments are used by a monitor, so the user knows what a rename touches. Monitors refer to the environment by UID, so they keep working after a rename.
**Step 3: Propose**
A numbered table: current name, proposed name, owner, used by monitors (yes/no), reason.
**Step 4: Apply what is approved**
Ask which numbered items to apply. For each approved item, call `postman-update-environment` once with `environment-uid` and the new `name`, and report the result.
**Rules & Guidelines:**
* Rename only what the user picks by number. Never rename into a name that already exists.
* `postman-update-environment` is the only write. Do NOT call `postman-add-environment` or any other write tool.
* Leave environments owned by other people flagged rather than renamed unless the user confirms.
**Validation:**
* If every name already follows the convention, say so and make no write calls.Who it's for
One answer, three teams that use it
API platform engineers
Set one naming convention
Get a numbered list of renames to bring every environment in line with the stage names.
Standardise our Postman environment names to Development, Staging and Production.
QA engineers
Stop picking the wrong environment
Clear stage names mean nobody runs tests against Production by mistake.
Which Postman environments have odd names or copy markers, and what should they be called?
DevOps engineers
Find duplicate environments
Likely duplicates are flagged with a check of their variable keys, rather than renamed blindly.
Find Postman environments that look like duplicates and propose names for the rest.
How it works
What PopdockAI does when you ask
You give a naming convention, or use the default stage names, and your AI assistant proposes renames. Only the numbers you pick are applied.
01
Ask
You give a naming convention, or use the default stage names.
02
Find
It reads every environment and finds inconsistent names.
03
Propose
You get a numbered list, with likely duplicates flagged, not renamed.
04
Apply
Only the numbers you pick are renamed.
