Assign Bugsnag error to owner
Assign the checkout TypeError in the Storefront project in Bugsnag to Jordan Lee.
Jordan Lee is a collaborator on Storefront, so the error can be assigned. - Error: TypeError, cannot read properties of undefined - Severity: error, currently unassigned - Assignee: Jordan Lee, jordan.lee@contoso.com Shall I assign it?

The problem

Errors get assigned to people who never see them

Assigning a Bugsnag error needs the right project and person, and the person may be in your organization without access to that project. Assign the wrong one, or someone with a pending invitation, and the error sits unseen.

Without PopdockAI

  • Find the error in the right project
  • Search for the person among similar names
  • Assign someone without project access by mistake
  • Overwrite an existing assignee without noticing

With PopdockAI

  • The person is found among the project's collaborators
  • It stops rather than granting access to someone outside it
  • Pending invitations and current assignees are flagged
  • Only the assignee changes, after you confirm

Prompt
**Objective:** Assign the Bugsnag error `{error-id}` in project `{project-name}` to the collaborator `{collaborator-name}`. This prompt changes data.

**Step 1: Resolve the project id**

Call `bugsnag-get-project` with `name` set to `{project-name}` and keep its `project-id`. `bugsnag-get-error` returns only the project name, so the id has to come from here.

**Step 2: Resolve the collaborator id**

Call `bugsnag-get-project-collaborator` with `project-name` set to the resolved project name and `collaborator-name.contains` set to `{collaborator-name}`, and keep the `collaborator-id`. If that returns nothing, call `bugsnag-get-collaborator` with `name.contains` instead: a match there means the person exists in the organization but has no access to this project, which you must say rather than working around. If more than one person matches, list them with their emails and stop.

**Step 3: Confirm the error**

Call `bugsnag-get-error` with `error-id` set to `{error-id}` and show the user the error class, message, severity and the collaborator you are about to assign it to. Wait for confirmation.

**Step 4: Assign**

Call `bugsnag-assign-error` with the `project-id` from Step 1, `error-id` `{error-id}` and `assigned-collaborator-id` from Step 2. Report what was assigned to whom.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* Never guess a collaborator id or a project id. Both are resolved by a read first.
* Do not call `bugsnag-add-project-collaborator` to grant the person access so the assignment will work. If they lack access, report that and stop; granting access is somebody's decision.
* Do not change the error's status or severity while assigning it.

**Validation:**

* If the collaborator has a pending invitation, say so before assigning; they may never see it.
* If the error is already assigned, say to whom and ask whether to reassign.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Engineering managers

Assign errors without guesswork

Hand an error to a named person and know they can see it in that project.

Assign the payment timeout error in the Fabrikam Checkout Bugsnag project to Priya Shah.

On call engineers

Hand over cleanly at shift end

Reassign open errors to the next person, with a warning if someone already owns them.

Reassign the cart TypeError in the Contoso Storefront project to Alex Kim, he is on call now.

Tech leads

Avoid assigning pending invites

Find out when someone has not accepted their invite before giving them an error.

Assign the login 500 error in the Northwind API Bugsnag project to Dana Whitfield, if she has access.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You name the error, project and person, and your AI assistant checks who can actually see it in Bugsnag. Nothing changes until you have seen the assignment and said yes.

01

Ask

You give the error, the project and the person's name.

Your AI tool

02

Check

It finds the person among the project's collaborators.

03

Confirm

You see the error and assignee, with any warnings, and say yes.
