The problem

The error has one owner and its issue has another

When an error lands, someone owns it in Bugsnag and someone owns the Jira issue that tracks it, often set by different people. Matching the same person in both by hand is slow, so the error and its issue end up with different engineers.

Without PopdockAI

  • Look up the person's Bugsnag account
  • Look up the same person in Jira
  • Find the Jira issue that tracks the error
  • Assign each side separately and get it wrong

With PopdockAI

  • The person is found in both systems by email
  • The tracking Jira issue is found for the error
  • Both current assignees are shown before you approve
  • A skipped half is reported plainly, no access granted

The prompt

Prompt
**Objective:** Assign Bugsnag error {error-id} and the Jira issue tracking it to the person whose email is {owner-email}, so ownership is the same in both systems. The join between the two systems is the email address.

**Step 1: Resolve the person on both sides**

* Call `bugsnag-get-collaborator` filtered by email {owner-email} (bugsnag server). Keep collaborator-id and name. If nothing comes back, stop: the person is not a collaborator in Bugsnag and cannot be assigned there.
* Call `jira-get-user` filtered by email {owner-email} (jira server). Keep user-account-id, name and active. If nothing comes back, or the user is not active, report that and continue with the Bugsnag half only.

If the two systems return different display names for the same email, report both and continue; the email is the key, not the name.

**Step 2: Resolve the Bugsnag project (bugsnag server)**

Call `bugsnag-get-error` filtered by error-id {error-id} to get project-name, error-class and message. Then call `bugsnag-get-project` filtered by that name to get project-id, which the assign call requires. If the error does not exist, stop.

**Step 3: Find the Jira issue (jira server)**

Call `jira-get-issue` filtered by project-key {jira-project-key} and summary containing {error-id}. Keep the issue id, issue-key and current assignee. If nothing comes back, say so and carry on with the Bugsnag half only.

**Step 4: Confirm, then assign**

Show the user: the error class, the Jira issue key, the person's name, and both current assignees. Wait for approval. Then, once each:

* Call `bugsnag-assign-error` with project-id, {error-id} and the collaborator-id from step 1.
* Call `jira-assign-issue` with the Jira issue id and the user-account-id from step 1.

**Step 5: Report**

State what was assigned where, and name explicitly any half that was skipped because the person or the record was missing on that side.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* `bugsnag-get-collaborator`, `bugsnag-get-error`, `bugsnag-get-project` and `bugsnag-assign-error` are on the bugsnag server. `jira-get-user`, `jira-get-issue` and `jira-assign-issue` are on the jira server. All three servers must be connected.
* Assign only. Do not call `bugsnag-add-project-collaborator` or `jira-add-issue-watcher` to make the person eligible; if they are missing on one side, report it and let a human decide.
* Do not change status or severity. Do not call `bugsnag-fix-error`, `bugsnag-ignore-error`, `bugsnag-update-error-severity` or `jira-update-issue`.

**Validation:**

* If either lookup on {owner-email} returns more than one person, list them and stop.
* If the record already has an assignee, say who it is and ask before reassigning.
* Partial success is a normal outcome here. Report one side assigned and the other skipped plainly rather than treating it as a failure.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Engineering managers

Give clear ownership in one step

Hand an error and its tracking issue to the same engineer, so nobody assumes someone else has it.

Give the Fabrikam Checkout timeout error and its Jira issue to priya.shah@fabrikam.com.

On call engineers

Take over an incident cleanly

Assign yourself both the error and the issue when you pick up an incident.

Assign Bugsnag error 7ac91 and its Jira issue to me, alex.kim@contoso.com.

Tech leads

Fix split ownership

Bring an error and its issue under one owner when they have drifted apart.

The Northwind API null error and its Jira issue have different owners. Give both to dana@northwindtraders.com.

How it works
