The problem

Jira issues rejected, misfiled or left unowned

Creating a Jira issue properly means picking the right project, an issue type that exists there and the correct assignee from similar names. Get one wrong and the issue is rejected, lands in the wrong place or sits unassigned.

Without PopdockAI

  • Pick the project from a long list
  • Guess which issue types it allows
  • Choose the assignee from similar names
  • Fix the issue after it lands in the wrong place

With PopdockAI

  • The project, issue type and assignee are looked up first
  • Ambiguous matches are listed and it stops
  • Valid issue types are shown if yours is not in the project
  • You confirm, the issue is created once and its key reported

Prompt
**Objective:** Create a Jira issue in the project `{project-name}` with the summary `{summary}`, of type `{issue-type}`, assigned to `{assignee}` if one is given. Resolve every id before writing anything.

**Step 1: Resolve the project id**

Call `jira-get-project` with name.contains set to {project-name}. `jira-add-issue` needs the numeric project-id, which only this tool returns. If more than one project matches, list them and stop. If none match, retry with project-key set to {project-name}, and stop if that is empty too.

**Step 2: Resolve the issue type id**

Call `jira-get-issue-type` with project-key set to the key from Step 1 and name set to {issue-type}. Take issue-type-id. Issue types are per project, so an id from another project will be rejected. If {issue-type} does not match, list the available type names for that project and stop.

**Step 3: Resolve the assignee**

If {assignee} was given, call `jira-get-user` with name.contains set to it, or email if it looks like an address. Take user-account-id. If it matches more than one person, list them and stop. If it matches nobody, stop and say so rather than creating the issue unassigned.

**Step 4: Confirm**

Show the project name and id, the issue type and id, the summary, the due date and the resolved assignee, and ask for confirmation. Do not proceed without it.

**Step 5: Write**

Call `jira-add-issue` ONCE with project-id, issue-type-id, summary, and assignee-account-id and due-date where resolved. Do not pass status-id, no tool on this server returns a valid status id.

**Step 6: Confirm it landed**

Call `jira-get-issue` with project-key set and summary.contains set to {summary} and report the new issue-key.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* `jira-add-issue` is the only write tool this prompt may call, once, after the Step 4 confirmation.
* If Step 5 fails, do NOT retry with different values, report the error.
* Never invent a project-id or an issue-type-id. Both come from a read call in this run.

**Validation:**

* If {summary} is empty, ask for it and stop.
* If {due-date} is supplied and is not YYYY-MM-DD, ask for it again and stop.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Project managers

Log work without opening Jira

Create a task in one message with the right type and owner, and get the key back.

Create a Task in the Mobile App project: Update onboarding copy, assigned to Priya Shah, due 15 December.

Product owners

Capture stories as they come up

Raise a story with the right project and type checked, so it does not bounce back.

Add a Story to the WEB project: Let customers save carts, unassigned for now.

Team leads

Assign new work to the right person

The assignee must match one real person, so new issues never sit unowned.

Create a Bug in API: Rate limit errors on export, assigned to Tom Reyes, due Friday.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

Your AI tool

02

Check

It looks up the project, issue type and assignee, stopping on any ambiguity.
