The problem

Forks in the wrong place, or twice

Forking a collection to work on it safely sounds simple, but it is easy to fork the wrong one when names repeat, drop the fork into a public workspace by mistake, or create a second fork when you already had one with the same label.

Without PopdockAI

  • Pick the collection among repeated names
  • Choose a workspace without checking visibility
  • Forget you already have a fork with that label
  • End up with a duplicate or public fork

With PopdockAI

  • The collection and workspace are resolved by name
  • A public workspace is flagged before forking
  • An existing fork with the same label is offered for reuse
  • The fork is created once, after you confirm

Prompt
**Objective:** Fork the collection `{collection-name}` into workspace `{workspace-name}` with the fork label `{fork-label}` (default: "<your name> fork").

**Step 1: Resolve the collection**

Call `postman-get-collections` with `name` = `{collection-name}` (fall back to `name.contains`). Exclude results that are themselves forks (forked-from-collection-id set) unless the user asked to fork a fork. If more than one remains, list name, owner and updated-at and ask which. Keep collection-id and collection-uid.

**Step 2: Resolve the workspace**

Call `postman-get-workspaces` with `name` = `{workspace-name}` (fall back to `name.contains`). Exactly one must match; keep workspace-id and visibility. If the workspace is public, warn that the fork will be publicly visible.

**Step 3: Check existing forks**

Call `postman-get-collections` and keep collections whose forked-from-collection-id equals the parent's collection-id. If one already has fork-label `{fork-label}`, show it and ask whether to reuse it instead of creating another.

**Step 4: Confirm, then fork**

Show parent collection, target workspace and label. After a clear yes, call `postman-fork-collection` once with `collection-uid`, `workspace-id` and `label`.

**Step 5: Report**

Return the new fork's id and remind the user that the merge-collection-fork prompt merges it back when the work is done.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* `postman-fork-collection` is the only write, called once. Do NOT call `postman-merge-collection-fork` or `postman-add-collection`.

**Validation:**

* If the collection or workspace cannot be found, list close matches and stop.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

API developers

Start safe changes quickly

Fork a collection into your team workspace in one message, with the label you choose.

Fork the Payments API collection into the Billing Team workspace, label it retry changes.

API leads

Keep forks out of public view

Public workspaces are flagged before a fork lands where everyone can see it.

Fork the Internal Users API into the Partners workspace, but warn me if it is public.

QA engineers

Reuse your existing fork

An existing fork with the same label is offered instead of making another.

Fork the Orders API into the QA workspace with the label regression suite.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You name the collection, workspace and label, and your AI assistant checks for problems first. You see the parent, workspace and label before the fork is created.
