The problem

Duplicate monitors and surprise usage

Setting up a Postman monitor means looking up the collection, workspace and environment, writing a cron schedule and timezone, and checking the collection is not already monitored. Skip a step and you get a duplicate, no environment, or runs your plan cannot afford.

Without PopdockAI

  • Look up the collection, workspace and environment
  • Write the cron schedule by hand
  • Forget to check for an existing monitor
  • Schedule runs far too often

With PopdockAI

  • Collection, workspace and environment are resolved by name
  • An existing monitor is found, and a paused one suggested for reactivation
  • The schedule is read back in plain words, too frequent runs flagged
  • The monitor is created once, after you confirm

Prompt
**Objective:** Create a monitor that runs collection `{collection-name}` in workspace `{workspace-name}`, optionally with environment `{environment-name}`, on the schedule `{schedule}` (a cron expression; default 0 9 * * 1-5, 9am on weekdays).

**Step 1: Resolve the collection**

Call `postman-get-collections` with `name` = `{collection-name}` (fall back to `name.contains`). Exactly one collection must match; if several do, list name, owner and updated-at and ask which. Keep its collection-uid.

**Step 2: Resolve the workspace**

Call `postman-get-workspaces` with `name` = `{workspace-name}` (fall back to `name.contains`). Exactly one must match; keep its workspace-id.

**Step 3: Resolve the environment (optional)**

If `{environment-name}` is given, call `postman-get-environments` with `name` = `{environment-name}` and keep its environment-uid. If it is empty, the monitor runs without an environment; say so in the confirmation, since most collections need one.

**Step 4: Check for an existing monitor**

Call `postman-get-monitors` with `collection-uid`. If a monitor already runs this collection with the same environment-uid, show it (name, active) and ask whether a second one is really wanted. If the existing one is paused, suggest reactivating it in Postman instead.

**Step 5: Confirm, then create**

Ask the user which IANA timezone the schedule is in (e.g. America/Chicago) if they have not said. Propose the monitor name as "<collection name> - <environment name>". Show collection, workspace, environment, name, cron and timezone, and wait for a clear yes. Then call `postman-add-monitor` once with `workspace-id`, `collection-uid`, `name`, `cron`, `timezone` and, when resolved, `environment-uid`.

**Step 6: Report**

Return the new monitor's id and a plain-English reading of the schedule.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* Validate the cron expression has five fields before confirming; explain what it means in words.
* Warn when the schedule runs more often than every 5 minutes; monitor runs count against the Postman plan's usage.
* `postman-add-monitor` is the only write, called once. Do NOT call `postman-run-monitor` or `postman-update-monitor`.

**Validation:**

* If the collection, workspace or environment cannot be found, list close matches and stop.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

API developers

Monitor a new API on day one

Set up a monitor with the right schedule and environment in one message.

Set up a Postman monitor for the Shipping API in the Logistics workspace, Staging, every 30 minutes.

QA engineers

Avoid duplicate monitors

An existing monitor on the same collection and environment is found before another is created.

Add a nightly monitor for the Orders API in Production at 1am UTC, unless one exists.

DevOps engineers

Keep usage in check

Schedules that run more often than every five minutes are flagged before they eat into your plan.

Create a Postman monitor for the Auth API in Production every 5 minutes, Eastern time.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You name the collection, workspace, environment and schedule, and your AI assistant checks for an existing monitor first. You see every detail before anything is created.

01

Ask

You name the collection, workspace, optional environment and schedule.

Your AI tool

02

Check

It resolves each by name and looks for an existing monitor.
