The problem

New API projects start with inconsistent names

Starting a new API in Postman means creating a team workspace, a collection and one environment per stage, all named consistently. By hand it is repetitive, names drift between stages, and it is easy to create a second workspace for an existing project.

Without PopdockAI

  • Create a workspace, collection and environments by hand
  • Type each stage name slightly differently
  • Create a workspace that already existed
  • Forget a stage

With PopdockAI

  • Existing workspace, collection and environments are checked first
  • A checklist shows what exists and what will be created
  • Only missing items are created, each once, after you confirm
  • Remaining manual steps are listed

Prompt
**Objective:** Set up Postman for the new API `{project-name}`: a team workspace, an empty collection, and environments for the stages `{stages}` (default Development, Staging, Production).

**Step 1: Check what exists**

* `postman-get-workspaces` with `name` = `{project-name}`.
* `postman-get-collections` with `name` = `{project-name}`.
* `postman-get-environments` with `name.contains` = `{project-name}`.

Anything that already exists is reused, not recreated.

**Step 2: Plan**

Show a checklist: workspace `{project-name}` (type team, description `{description}` if given), collection `{project-name}` (same description), and one environment per stage named "`{project-name}` - <Stage>". Mark each as exists or will create.

**Step 3: Confirm, then create**

After a clear yes, create only the missing items, each once:

* `postman-add-workspace` with `name`, `type` = team and `description`.
* `postman-add-collection` with `name` and `description`.
* `postman-add-environment` with `name`, once per missing stage.

Stop at the first error and report what was and was not created.

**Step 4: Report**

List each item with its id. Explain what is still manual: the collection and environments are created empty and in the default workspace (these tools cannot place them into the new workspace or add variables), so the user should move them in Postman and add variables there. Offer the schedule-collection-monitor prompt once requests exist.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* Never create a duplicate of something found in Step 1.
* Only the three add tools above may write. Do NOT call update, fork, merge, run or publish tools.

**Validation:**

* If `{project-name}` is empty, ask for it and stop.
* If `{stages}` lists more than five stages, confirm the list before creating.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

API developers

Start a new API in one go

Get the workspace, collection and stage environments in one request, named consistently.

Set up Postman for the Inventory API with Dev, Test and Production.

API platform teams

Keep project setup consistent

Every new project follows the same naming, so people find the right environment first time.

Create the Postman workspace, collection and environments for the Returns API project.

Engineering managers

Avoid duplicate workspaces

Existing items are found first, so a project never ends up with two workspaces.

Set up the Billing API in Postman with Staging and Production, reusing anything that exists.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You give the project name and stages, and your AI assistant checks what already exists in Postman. It creates only what is missing after you confirm, and stops at the first error.

01

Ask

You give the project name, and optionally stages and a description.

Your AI tool

02

Check

It looks for an existing workspace, collection and environments.
