Tie out the migrated ledger account by account
For controllers who want the Dynamics GP trial balance tied to Business Central after migration, by asking their AI assistant.

The problem
Segmented GP accounts do not line up with Business Central
Tying the Dynamics GP trial balance to Business Central is a standard migration check, but GP accounts carry several segments while Business Central moves them to dimensions. Rolling up accounts and handling periods correctly is error prone spreadsheet work.
Without PopdockAI
- Export the GP trial balance with every segment
- Roll accounts up to the main segment by hand
- Treat balance sheet and income statement periods differently
- Total Business Central ledger entries to the same date
With PopdockAI
- The GP trial balance is built with beginning balances only where they belong
- Accounts are rolled up by main segment
- Differences are listed largest first, with unmatched accounts on both sides
- A custom mapping makes it stop and ask, and nothing is touched

**Objective:** Compare the Dynamics GP trial balance for fiscal year `{fiscal-year}` through period `{through-period}` (default 12) with Business Central G/L balances as of `{as-of-date}`, where the fiscal year began on `{fiscal-year-start}`.
**Step 1: Build the GP trial balance**
Call `dynamics-gp-get-gl-account-summary` with `year` set to `{fiscal-year}`, with a `max-records` large enough for every account and period. For each account-number:
* Balance Sheet accounts (posting-type): add up period-balance for period-id 0 (the beginning balance) through `{through-period}`.
* Profit and Loss accounts: add up period-balance for period-id 1 through `{through-period}`.
Then roll the GP accounts up by main-account-segment. The GP migration maps the main segment to the BC G/L account number and moves the other segments to dimensions, so several GP accounts land on one BC account.
**Step 2: Read the BC chart of accounts**
Call `business-central-get-account` with `account-type` set to Posting. Match GP main-account-segment to BC account-number, trimmed. Use income-balance to tell Balance Sheet accounts from Income Statement accounts.
**Step 3: Build the BC balances**
For each matched account, call `business-central-get-general-ledger-entry` with `gl-account-number`, `posting-date.to` set to `{as-of-date}`, and for Income Statement accounts `posting-date.from` set to `{fiscal-year-start}`. Add up amount. If a call returns exactly `max-records` rows, say that account's total may be incomplete.
**Step 4: Report**
A table per account: account number, name, GP balance, BC balance, difference, sorted by the absolute difference, largest first. Then: GP accounts with no BC account, BC accounts with a balance and no GP account, total debits and credits on each side, and whether each side nets to zero.
**Rules & Guidelines:**
* `dynamics-gp-get-gl-account-summary` is on the dynamics-gp server. `business-central-get-account` and `business-central-get-general-ledger-entry` are on the business-central server.
* This prompt is read-only. Do NOT call `business-central-create-journal`, `business-central-create-journal-line`, `business-central-update-journal-line`, `dynamics-gp-gl-account-transaction-add` or `dynamics-gp-gl-account-add`.
* If either system has more than one company, ask the user which GP company and which BC company to use before the first call, and pass them as `company`.
**Validation:**
* If `{as-of-date}` is not the last day of GP period `{through-period}`, say that the two sides cover different dates and the comparison is approximate.
* If most BC accounts have no entries at all, report that the opening balances have not been posted in BC yet and stop after the account mapping.
* If the GP main segment and BC account numbers do not line up for most accounts, the customer used a custom account mapping. Stop, show a sample of both, and ask the user for the mapping instead of guessing.Who it's for
One answer, three teams that use it
Controllers
Sign off the ledger migration
Differences largest first and a check that each side nets to zero give you the proof for sign-off.
Tie the Dynamics GP trial balance for period 6 of 2026 to Business Central as of 30 June.
Migration accountants
Find the accounts that do not tie
Unmatched accounts on either side and the biggest differences show where to look first.
Which main accounts differ between the Dynamics GP trial balance and Business Central at year end?
Implementation consultants
Spot mapping problems early
When the account mapping is custom it stops and asks, so you catch a mapping issue instead of a false result.
Compare the GP trial balance with Business Central for period 3 and tell me if the account mapping looks custom.
How it works
What PopdockAI does when you ask
You give the fiscal year, period and dates, and your AI assistant builds the Dynamics GP trial balance and compares it with Business Central. It warns on date or total problems and changes nothing.
01
Ask
You give the fiscal year, period, as-of date and year start.
02
Build
It builds the GP trial balance, rolled up by main segment.
03
Compare
It totals Business Central ledger entries for each matching account.
04
Report
You get differences largest first and unmatched accounts.
