The problem

No quick view of what is happening in a repository

Engineering leads have no quick view of what is actually happening in a repository. Commits, pushes, pull requests and diverging branches sit on separate pages, and the picture is out of date by the time it is assembled.

Without PopdockAI

  • Scroll the commit history
  • Check pushes and pull requests separately
  • Look for branches that have drifted
  • Assemble a picture that is already stale

With PopdockAI

  • Commits, pushes and pull requests are read for the window
  • Contributors are counted
  • Diverged branches are found
  • Activity is summarised, not ranked by person

The prompt

Use this prompt

Prompt
**Objective:** Summarize the last `{lookback-days}` days (default 14) of activity in repository `{repository-name}`.

**Step 1: Resolve the repository**

Call `azure-devops-get-repository` with name `{repository-name}`. If several projects have one, list them and stop. Note id and default-branch.

**Step 2: Read activity**

Call `azure-devops-get-commit` with repository-id and author-date.from set to the start of the window, `azure-devops-get-push` with repository-id and date.from, and `azure-devops-get-pull-request` with repository-name `{repository-name}`. Count commits per author and per day, and total additions and deletions.

**Step 3: Check branches**

Call `azure-devops-get-branch-stat` with repository-id and list branches that are far ahead (ahead-count above 20) or far behind (behind-count above 50) of the default branch.

**Step 4: Report**

Contributors ranked by commits, busiest days, pull requests opened and completed in the window, notable large commits, and diverged branches.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* This prompt is read-only. Call only the `azure-devops-get-*` read tools named above; never create, update, comment on, approve, queue, abort or delete anything in Azure DevOps.
* The tools only return data the connected account can see; never infer data from projects outside that access.
* Do not rank people as a performance judgement; present activity only.

**Validation:**

* If there are no commits in the window, say so and report the date of the most recent one.

Spot branches drifting away

Diverged branches are called out, so long running work is merged before it drifts further.
