Add opted-in Shopify customers to Mailchimp without breaking consent
For marketers who want Shopify buyers who accepted marketing added to a Mailchimp audience, with past unsubscribes respected, by asking their AI assistant.

The problem
Shopify subscribers slip through before they reach Mailchimp
Customers who agree to marketing at Shopify checkout do not always reach your Mailchimp audience. Fixing it by hand means comparing them one by one, and adding back someone who unsubscribed or was cleaned breaks their consent.
Without PopdockAI
- Export recent Shopify customers who accept marketing
- Search the Mailchimp audience for each email
- Dig through unsubscribe history to avoid re-adding anyone
- Risk a consent complaint when one slips back in
With PopdockAI
- Opted-in Shopify customers with an email are read for you
- Existing members in any status and past unsubscribes are left alone
- You see who will be added and their status before anything is written
- Each new member is read back to confirm it landed

**Objective:** Find Shopify customers created on or after `{customer-created-from}` (default: 30 days before today) who accept marketing but are not on the Mailchimp audience named `{list-name}`, and after confirmation add them with status `{subscribe-status}` (default pending, which sends a double opt-in email).
**Step 1: Resolve the audience in Mailchimp**
Call `mailchimp-get-list` with `name` = `{list-name}`. If it does not match exactly one audience, list the matches and stop. Note `list-id`.
**Step 2: Candidate customers from Shopify**
Call `shopify-get-customer` with `created-at.from` = `{customer-created-from}` and `max-records` = 250. Keep only customers whose `accepts-marketing` is true and who have an `email`. Note `first-name` and `last-name`.
**Step 3: Check each against Mailchimp**
For each candidate, call `mailchimp-get-list-member` with `email` and `list-name` = `{list-name}`.
* No member: a candidate to add.
* Member with any status (subscribed, pending, unsubscribed, cleaned, archived): leave alone. Never re-add someone who unsubscribed or was cleaned; list them separately as "consent withdrawn in Mailchimp".
Also call `mailchimp-get-campaign-unsubscribe` with `email` for each candidate; anyone who appears there is not a candidate, even if they are absent from this audience.
**Step 4: Confirm**
Show a table of the people to add (name, email, Shopify customer since) and the status they will be given. Ask the user to confirm. Do not continue without an explicit yes. If the user removes people, drop them.
**Step 5: Add**
For each confirmed person, call `mailchimp-add-list-member` once with `list-id` from Step 1, `email-address`, `status` = `{subscribe-status}` (pending if empty), `first-name` and `last-name`. If a call fails, record the error and continue with the next.
**Step 6: Verify and report**
Call `mailchimp-get-list-member` with each added email and `list-name` = `{list-name}` to confirm the member exists. Report added, failed (with the error), skipped as already present, and skipped for withdrawn consent.
**Rules & Guidelines:**
* `shopify-*` tools are on the shopify server and are read only here; `mailchimp-*` tools are on the mailchimp server.
* The only write tool this prompt may call is `mailchimp-add-list-member`, only in Step 5, only after confirmation. Do NOT call `mailchimp-update-list-member`, `mailchimp-add-customer`, `shopify-update-customer` or any other add or update tool.
* Match on email only, case-insensitive and trimmed.
* Accept only subscribed or pending for `{subscribe-status}`; refuse anything else and stop.
**Validation:**
* If there are no candidates, say the audience is already in step with Shopify and stop.
* If Step 2 returns 250 customers, say the run was capped and suggest a later `{customer-created-from}`.Who it's for
One answer, three teams that use it
Email marketers
Keep the audience growing with real buyers
Add shoppers who agreed to marketing without a spreadsheet comparison, so every campaign reaches your newest customers.
Add Shopify customers since 15 September who accept marketing to our Contoso Shoppers audience in Mailchimp.
Marketing operations
Respect every unsubscribe automatically
Past unsubscribes and cleaned contacts are checked first, so a catch-up sync never puts someone back on the list.
Which opted-in Shopify customers are missing from the Fabrikam Newsletter audience? Leave out anyone who ever unsubscribed.
Privacy and compliance
Show consent was honoured on every add
Members are added as pending by default, so double opt-in stays in place and you can see why each person was skipped.
Before we add new Shopify buyers to Mailchimp, show me who would be added as pending and who is skipped for past unsubscribes.
How it works
What PopdockAI does when you ask
You name the audience, and your AI assistant checks each opted-in Shopify customer against Mailchimp and its unsubscribe history. Members are added only after you confirm, pending by default for double opt-in.
01
Ask
You name the Mailchimp audience and optionally a start date.
02
Check
It reads opted-in Shopify customers and skips existing members and past unsubscribes.
03
Confirm
You see who will be added and their status, pending by default, and say yes.
04
Add
It adds each member and reads them back.
