The problem

Building a VIP segment by hand is slow and easy to get wrong

Targeting your best Shopify customers in Mailchimp means finding everyone above a spend threshold, checking each is subscribed and adding them without doubling anyone up. A condition-based segment cannot take manual members, which often shows up only after the work is done.

Without PopdockAI

  • Export Shopify customers and sort by lifetime spend
  • Check each one is a subscribed audience member
  • Add them to the segment one at a time
  • Find out the segment was condition-based after all

With PopdockAI

  • The segment is confirmed as static before anything else
  • Customers above your spend are kept only if subscribed
  • You see who will be added and each skip reason, then confirm
  • The new member count is shown beside the old one

Prompt
**Objective:** Find Shopify customers who have spent at least `{min-total-spent}` and add the ones already subscribed to the Mailchimp audience `{list-name}` into its static segment `{segment-name}`, after confirmation.

**Step 1: Resolve the audience and segment in Mailchimp**

Call `mailchimp-get-list` with `name` = `{list-name}`; it must match exactly one audience, otherwise list the matches and stop. Note `list-id`. Then call `mailchimp-get-segment` with `list-id` and `name` = `{segment-name}`. It must match exactly one segment, and its `type` must be static; a saved (condition-based) segment cannot have members added, so stop and say so.

**Step 2: Top spenders from Shopify**

Call `shopify-get-customer` with `total-spent.min` = `{min-total-spent}` and `max-records` = 250. Keep `email`, `name`, `total-spent` and `orders-count`, and skip customers without an email.

**Step 3: Filter against Mailchimp**

For each customer:

* Call `mailchimp-get-list-member` with `email` and `list-name` = `{list-name}`. Keep them only if `status` is subscribed. Count the others as "not subscribed" and do not add them; a segment cannot hold non-members.
* Call `mailchimp-get-segment-member` with `segment-id`, `list-id` and `email`. If they are already in the segment, count them as "already in segment".

**Step 4: Confirm**

Show the people to add (name, email, total spent, orders) and the counts for each skip reason. Ask the user to confirm. Do not continue without an explicit yes.

**Step 5: Add and verify**

For each confirmed person call `mailchimp-add-segment-member` once with `segment-id`, `list-id` and `email-address`. Then call `mailchimp-get-segment` again with `segment-id` and report the new `member-count` beside the old one, plus added, failed (with error) and skipped counts.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* `shopify-*` tools are on the shopify server and are read only here; `mailchimp-*` tools are on the mailchimp server.
* The only write tool this prompt may call is `mailchimp-add-segment-member`, only in Step 5, only after confirmation. Do NOT call `mailchimp-add-list-member`, `mailchimp-update-list-member`, `mailchimp-start-automation` or any Shopify add or update tool.
* Match on email only, case-insensitive and trimmed.

**Validation:**

* If `{min-total-spent}` is empty or not a number, ask for one and stop.
* If Step 2 returns 250 customers, say the result was capped and suggest raising `{min-total-spent}`.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Email marketers

Target the customers who spend the most

Build a VIP send from real Shopify spend in one message instead of a spreadsheet and manual adds.

Put Shopify customers who have spent more than 500 into the Loyal Customers segment of our Contoso audience in Mailchimp.

Ecommerce managers

Reward big spenders with early access

Get your highest value buyers into one segment before a launch or sale, with only subscribed contacts included.

Add everyone with over 2,000 in Shopify spend to the Early Access segment in the Fabrikam audience before Friday's launch.

CRM and loyalty managers

Keep the VIP segment current

Top up the segment as customers cross the threshold, with existing members skipped and the reason for each skip counted.

Who has crossed 1,500 lifetime spend in Shopify and is not yet in the VIP segment in Mailchimp? Add them once I approve.

How it works

What PopdockAI does when you ask

You set the spend, audience and segment, and your AI assistant checks the segment and filters your Shopify customers. Members are added only after you confirm, and nobody is added to the audience itself.

01

Ask

You give a minimum lifetime spend, the audience and a static segment.

Your AI tool

02

Check

It confirms the segment is static and reads Shopify customers above the spend.
