The problem

Stock received against the wrong variant or location

Making a variant stockable at a new Shopify location means finding the right variant by SKU, finding the location and checking it is not already there. Pick the wrong variant or location and stock gets received against the wrong place.

Without PopdockAI

  • Search for the variant by SKU
  • Find the location and check it is active
  • Check whether the item is already stocked there
  • Receive stock against the wrong place by mistake

With PopdockAI

  • The SKU and location are resolved, with candidates listed if unclear
  • Inactive locations are refused and existing levels reported
  • You see the product, variant and target and confirm first
  • The connection is made once and the new level read back

Prompt
**Objective:** Make the product variant with SKU `{sku}` stockable at the location `{location-name}`, after checking it is not stocked there already and the user confirms.

**Step 1: Resolve the SKU**

Call `shopify-get-product-variant` filtered by `sku`. If nothing matches, stop and say so. If more than one variant has this SKU, list them (product-id, title, sku, barcode) and stop. Keep inventory-item-id, title and product-id. Call `shopify-get-inventory-item` filtered by `inventory-item-id` for product-title and tracked.

**Step 2: Resolve the location**

Call `shopify-get-location` filtered by `name`. If nothing matches, retry with `name.contains`. If more than one location matches, list them and stop. If the location is not active, stop and say so. Keep location-id and name.

**Step 3: Check it is not already stocked there**

Call `shopify-get-inventory-level` filtered by `inventory-item-id` and `location-id`. If a level already exists, report its available quantity and stop: nothing needs doing. Also report which locations the item is stocked at today by calling `shopify-get-inventory-level` filtered by `inventory-item-id` alone.

**Step 4: Confirm and apply**

`shopify-add-inventory-level` needs both ids as plain numbers, not GIDs. If either id is a GID (gid://shopify/InventoryItem/808950810), use only the trailing number.

Show the user the product, variant, SKU, the target location and the locations it is stocked at today, and ask them to confirm. If the item is not tracked, warn that stocking it at a location has no effect on availability until tracking is turned on.

Only after confirmation, call `shopify-add-inventory-level` once with `inventory-item-id` and `location-id`. Leave relocate-if-necessary unset unless the user explicitly asks to move the item off a fulfillment service location.

**Step 5: Verify**

Call `shopify-get-inventory-level` filtered by `inventory-item-id` and `location-id` again and report the new level. Quantity will be zero until stock is received.

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* `shopify-add-inventory-level` is the only write tool this prompt may call, once, after confirmation.
* Do not call `shopify-add-location`, `shopify-update-location` or `shopify-update-product`.
* If the call fails, report the error as returned and do not retry with altered ids.

**Validation:**

* If the SKU or location is ambiguous, list the candidates and stop rather than picking one.
* If the verify read shows no level, say the change could not be confirmed.

Who it's for

One answer, three teams that use it

Store managers

Get new lines ready to receive
