The problem

Goals that slip while nobody checks the pace

Checking Asana goals means opening each one, comparing its metric with the target and judging that against how far into the period you are. Goals with no metric, no linked work or a stale status are easy to miss.

Without PopdockAI

  • Open each goal one by one
  • Compare metric with target by hand
  • Work out how much of the period has passed
  • Miss goals with no metric or stale status

With PopdockAI

  • Every goal in the period read with metric and status
  • Progress set against time elapsed
  • Behind, unmeasured, unsupported and stale goals listed
  • Nothing in Asana changed

Prompt
**Objective:** Report progress on the Asana goals in the time period `{time-period}`, optionally limited to the team `{team-name}`, and call out the goals that are behind.

**Step 1: Resolve the time period**

Call `asana-get-time-periods` with `name` set to `{time-period}` (use `name.contains` if nothing matches exactly). If more than one period matches, list them with start and end dates and stop. Note the period's start and end dates and work out what fraction of the period has elapsed as of today.

**Step 2: Read the goals**

Call `asana-get-goal` with `time-period` set to the resolved period name. If `{team-name}` is given, add `team` set to it. For each goal record the owner, status, `metric-current-value`, `metric-target-value`, `metric-unit` and `current-status-update`.

**Step 3: Read what supports each goal**

For each goal call `asana-get-goal-relationships` with `supported-goal-id` set to its `goal-id`, and record the supporting sub-goals, projects and portfolios with their contribution weights. For each goal also call `asana-get-status-updates` with `parent-id` set to its goal id, to find when the status was last updated.

**Step 4: Report**

A table: goal, owner, status, metric progress (current / target and percent), expected progress (the elapsed fraction of the period), gap, last status update date, number of supporting items. Then:

* **Behind:** goals whose percent progress trails the elapsed fraction by more than 15 points, or whose status is at risk or off track
* **No metric:** goals with no target value, whose progress cannot be measured
* **Orphaned:** goals with no supporting work linked
* **Stale:** goals with no status update in the last 30 days

**Rules & Guidelines:**

* Read-only. Do not call `asana-update-goal`, `asana-update-goal-metric`, `asana-create-status-for-goal`, `asana-update-goal-relationship` or `asana-add-supporting-relationship`, or any other create, update or add tool.
* Treat a metric where lower is better (a cost, a defect count) with care: if the target is below the initial value, invert the progress calculation and say you did.

**Validation:**

* If the period has no goals, say so and list which periods do have goals if a quick `asana-get-goal` without the period filter shows any.
* If `{team-name}` matches no goals, say so rather than widening the scope silently.
