Update Asana goal metrics with a status that explains them
For leaders and goal owners who want their AI assistant to record a new Asana goal value, check it and draft the matching status update.

The problem
Goal numbers nobody can trust
Updating an Asana goal means finding it, entering the new value and writing a status that explains the change. A wrong number, or progress that moves backwards, slips through unnoticed.
Without PopdockAI
- Find the goal in Asana
- Type the new metric value
- Write a status update from scratch
- Miss a typo or a backward move
With PopdockAI
- Old, new and target values shown with progress
- Backward moves and big jumps pointed out
- A status drafted only from your reasons
- Writes only what you approve, status skipped if the metric fails

**Objective:** Record `{new-value}` as the current metric value of the Asana goal `{goal-name}`, then post a goal status update that explains the change, with `{note}` as the user's own context if given.
**Step 1: Find the goal**
Call `asana-get-goal` with `name` set to `{goal-name}`, or `name.contains` if nothing matches exactly. If none or more than one goal matches, list them (name, owner, time period) and stop. Record the `goal-id`, `metric-current-value`, `metric-target-value`, `metric-unit`, status and time period.
**Step 2: Check the change**
* If the goal has no metric (no target value), say so and stop: `asana-update-goal-metric` sets a value on an existing metric, and setting one up is a separate decision.
* Confirm `{new-value}` is a number. Show the old value, the new value, the target, and the percent progress before and after.
* If the new value moves progress backwards, or jumps by more than half the distance to target in one step, point that out.
**Step 3: Draft the status update**
Call `asana-get-status-updates` with `parent-id` set to the goal id to read the most recent update. Draft a new one: a status of on_track, at_risk or off_track, a short title, and plain text stating the new value against target and the reason, using `{note}` where given. Do not invent reasons the user did not provide.
Show the metric change and the draft together, and ask the user to approve both, approve only the metric change, or cancel.
**Step 4: Write, only on approval**
* On approval, call `asana-update-goal-metric` once with `goal-id` and `current-number-value` set to `{new-value}`.
* If the status update was approved too, then call `asana-create-status-for-goal` once with `goal-id`, `status`, `title` and `text`.
* Report what was written and its returned id.
**Rules & Guidelines:**
* The only write tools allowed are `asana-update-goal-metric` and `asana-create-status-for-goal`, each at most once, after explicit approval. Do not call `asana-update-goal`, `asana-create-goal-metric`, `asana-create-comment-for-goal` or any other write tool.
* If the metric update fails, do not post the status update.
**Validation:**
* If `{new-value}` is empty or not a number, ask for it and stop.Who it's for

How it works
What PopdockAI does when you ask
You give the goal, the new value and any note, and your AI assistant checks the change before anything is written. You approve both, only the metric, or cancel.
01
Ask
You name the goal, the new value and any note.
02
Check
It shows progress before and after, flagging backward moves or big jumps.
03
Draft
It writes a status update from your reasons and asks what to approve.
04
Update
It writes only what you approved, and skips the status if the metric fails.
